I don’t know if anyone actually remembers when Blockbuster Online broke back into the market. I know I do. It was the day I switched from Netflix. Blockbuster was offering a free rental with every DVD mailer you brought in to the store. At the time I think it was one dollar more than netflix, which is a screaming deal. A few months ago they bumped that price up to $24.99 which a lot of people were upset with. I rent a ton of movies and was notified of this in more than enough time to cancel if I wanted. I was also automatically switched to the similarly priced plan with only 5 in store rentals per month at the time of switch. A little annoying but was no big deal to change. I have been enjoying it since. Until today …
Today I logged in and checked my bank account balance. It was lower than it should have been. I quickly recognized the culprit. It was a charge from Blockbuster for $10 more than normal. I immediately went to thier website to check my billing invoice and figure out why it was there. No invoices to be found. Just the date, credit card it was placed on, and the ammount. I then checked my subscription plan and noticed it magically went up to $34.99 per month. I had gotten no email, no snail mail, no notifications what so ever that this was happening. I can get 4 at a time from Netflix for that price, and with Blockbusters deteriorating turn-around time it would be just as many movies! Blockbuster is fucking up big time, and they just lost yet another customer.

I hate Blockbuster as well! I have been a Netflix member for over 5 years and have had almost no problems. Most DVD’s arrive withing 2 days and I think the prices are great! It certainly makes my life easier as I am a huge movie fan and the selection can’t be beat! You may want to try them again if you are really done with Blockbuster. I know I am very happy with the level of service!
I encountered the same problem with the price hike. I then checked with other co-workers and found out that none of their accounts had gone up in monthly fees. I then called the online service center and was told that the corporate office has raised prices, that’s all that was told to the employees, and there are no details. I really believe I was targeted because I used the store/mail service at least twice a week. To date my co-workers accounts have not gone up. I tried the 5 movies a month in store rental and it hasn’t worked for me.
I am also upset with blockbuster too. When i went to rent two movies yesterday from one of thier stores, they told me the movies in the middle (older movies) were $3.99 same as the new releases on the wall. That is a crying shame, they have truly lost me as a customer as for as renting any from them from my bill fold anymore, i am a reward member and the only thing i see myself doing now is redeming my 1 free movie rental one month, and one movie from the wall rented and one and the movie in the movie free , this i am entiled too being a reward member after my reward membership expires , i am permantely through with blockbuster…………
It’s only gotten worse. After the price increases and cutbacks in the free rentals, now they’ve gone to delaying shipments with the company BS when you complain. Too bad, it was once a great service and I understand they need to make a profit but to abuse your customers is just plain disrespectful. I’m back to Netflix.
after a long time not getting online or store rentals I thought I would give the store one more chance. I rented 2 Two movies I could not believe what they charged me. $5.25 a movie, I asked the clerk why they were charging so much her reply was BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE PAYING IT. Needless to say I did not and will not get movies from blockbusters. In this economy I would rather put that amount in my gas tank.
I feel you Bill C – price increases, cutbacks in free rentals, delayed shipments – and, at least for me, sending me stuff out of order on my queue even if No. 1 is availble. Seriously, skipping 5 seasons of a T.V. show that lists as “avaible” to send me some random thing farther down on my list? Half the time its a crap shoot, irregardless if something is “available” or not.
Two years ago we got unlimited rentals and in store exchanges per month (three out at a time) for $14.95. Then that was cut back to two DVDs out at a time with a limited number of in store exchanges. Then the price went up. Then only three in store exchanges and it takes almost a WEEK to get a new movie in our mailbox. Now the three in store exchanges count as part of our queue, so if we have an in store exchange in hand, they won’t ship a DVD from your online queue. We complained online (the kids in the store can’t help it) but it just goes into a black hole.
