I will start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Apple’s products([not so much the iPhone](http://irgeek.net/archives/2007/01/12/iphone-ripped-apart/)) and plan on being so for quite some time. Their customer service, at least at my local Apple sore, could use a bit of work. I had to bring my iBook in for repair the other day because the logic board died. The genius at the genius bar, who was very nice, told me it would be 5-7 business days for the repair. As my laptop is my only computer this was a very undesirable timeframe. The genius told me about this thing called Pro Care, which costs $99 and has a 24 hour turn around on repairs once they have the part. Seemed to good to be true, I asked how long if they don’t have the part. She said they would order it same day and all parts are shipped next day. Pro Care also came with a few extra goodies that just sweetened the deal. I was sold.
Cut to 6 days later I have not heard a single thing from the Apple store and the only thing I can get a hold of is the automated repair status line which only tells me that ‘my product is in repair.’ I finally had a chance to call them(I work graveyards, so sleeping during the day is a requirement on work days). It took me 35 minutes of calling(once they turned their phone system on, which happened 45 minutes after they opened) I finally got a hold of a technician who looked up my repair and told me that they hadn’t even found the part yet!!!!! I know the laptop is a little dated, but it’s a late model G4 iBook. That part should be no problem to find. That really aggravated me and was regretting my $99 Pro Care purchase. I got a call later that day while I was sleeping, after inquiring with them about the status it took them about 3 hours to find the part and get it shipped out. I picked it up the next day around 3pm and it has worked great, I’m happy with the repair, happy with the product, but if I would have known it was going to take 7 days anyways, I would never have payed the $99 for Pro Care.
