Google Battles Comment Spam

Google has come up with a new idea not to eliminate comment spam, but to make it useless. As i’m sure you know comment spammers spam so that they can increase thier search rankings. Google developed a new rel tag that thier search engine will not follow if it see’s it. When thier bot see’s a link with rel=’nofollow’ it will simply ignore the link and not spider it. They are suggesting that everyone put this code anywhere that a user can put a link on your site. Meaning that whenever someone leaves a legitimate comment, they will not gain on google from posting thier URL. It seems unfair, but this may be the price we have to pay for getting rid of comment spam. Currently I use Spam Karma and have had no problems with spam since I installed it. A few legit comments have been moderated, but only because they used bogus info. You can read the entire Google post at Google’s Blog.

Blog Traffic

I found two new blog traffic sharing sites … Blog Clicker and Blog Crowd. They definately work for getting people to your site, and Blog Crowd gives you 250 free credits when you sign up. For those of you who dont know, basically these sites have you view other peoples blogs for a period of about 20 seconds and for every 2 sites you visit, they will have someone visit your site for at lest 20 seconds. If you have a blog sign up for them, you can find new blogs to read and get traffic to your site.

Ugh I’m Dying!

I woke up today with the absolute worst sore throat ever and the dryest mouth I have ever had. I go to the bathroom to get rid of the drymouth and I notice that the side of my throat are swelled up and they are *scottish accent*friggin huge! Then I remember my normal yearly case of strep throat that I get, I know, awful isnt it? I start making phone calls to try and find someone with left over antibiotics as I don’t have health insurance currently and can’t go to the doctor for less than a couple hundred dollars. All is well, my friend Misty is on her way over here right now with some medicine and shes gonna make sure I get all better :)

BTW I know strep throat sounds serious, and I seem to be taking it lightly, but I literally get it every year. I have been a carrier of it since I was like 4, it sucks!

The Mac Craze

I was never a huge fan of Macs until recently getting to mess around with OSX a bit. I absolutely LOVE it. I just watched The 2005 Keynote from apple and wow do they have some good stuff!

The new Mac Mini!

This is definately my favorite thing overall they revealed. This means I can actually buy a Mac!!! I am poor afterall heh. Hopefully this will be on my desk by the end of February! I’m going to go for the 80gig version of course and its gonna cost me around $650 with a new keyboard and mouse and $800 if I go for the Apple Care which I think i’m going to as new Mac’s tend to have some problems. Next we have the iPod Shuffle …

The new iPod Shuffle!

The iPod shuffle is Apples jump into the low-end flash mp3 player market. If you ask me I think they did an awesome job. Its simple, yet beautiful. A 1gig player for $150!!! Outstanding! I also like the whole “shuffle” thing. 240 new songs just by plugging the thing in. Also you can use this a thumb drive as well but you have to allocate how much of it you want to use for space and how much you want to use for music. Would be nice to be able to determine that on the fly but its not that bad I guess.

Among those were the new iLife ‘05 and iWork. iWork looks pretty awesome and iLife seems to have a bunch of stuff I will never use. They also previewed alot of the features from OSX Tiger and it has some really cool stuff! Spotlight in particular. Can’t wait to shell out $150 for it :)

So by the end of February hopefully I will be the proud owner of a new Mac Mini and iPod shuffle! Wish me luck.
